The Meaning of Christmas

On this special day, let us remember the true meaning of Christmas: Jesus Christ came down to bring light where there was darkness and love where there was hate. He is the reason Christmas is worth celebrating.

"The first gift of Christmas was love. A parent's love. Pure as the first snows of Christmas. For God so loved His children that He sent His son, that we might someday return to Him."  Richard Paul Evans1

"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men."
- Luke 2:14

"The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound." - Isaiah 61:1

"O God our loving father, help us rightly to remember the birth of Jesus, that we may share in the song of the angels, the gladness of the shepherds, and the worship of the wise men."                           -Robert Louis Stevenson2

"Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed."  - Isaiah 53:4-5

"With all my heart and the fervency of my soul, I lift up my voice in testimony as a special witness and declare that God does live. Jesus is His Son, the Only Begotten of the Father in the flesh. He is our Redeemer; He is our Mediator with the Father. He it was who died on the cross to atone for our sins. He became the firstfruits of the Resurrection. Because He died, all shall live again."
- Thomas S. Monson3

"In him was life; and the life was the light of men." -John 1:4

"Jesus is the Living Christ, the immortal Son of God.He is the great King Immanuel, who stands today on theright hand of His Father. He is the light, the life, and thehope of the world. His way is the path that leads tohappiness in this life and eternal life in the world to come.God be thanked for the matchless gift of His divine Son." -The Living Christ

May we each remember the great gift we have each received from our Heavenly Father: that of his Beloved Son. Because the love of Christ is what Christmas is all about.

Merry Christmas
